Are we "A.I. programs running on the basement servers of some advanced future civilization?" Well, that would explain a lot ...

I should remark that the above speculation, borne of a 2003 article by Nick Bostrom, is entirely dependent on the assumption that creating a functional simulation of the human mind is possible.

That assumption is... well, just that. It is nothing obvious, philosophically speaking. Some, like Roger Penrose, have proposed quite strong arguments against that assumption.

There is "nothing obvious, philosphically speaking." Quite true. Kinda like our religions, in that regard . . . Mostly religions are based on assumptions, too, aren't they?

AS my college philosophy Prof used to end all of his arguments "And thus proving the existence of God"

Alternately: "I shouldn't have drunken so much beer last night. It gave me one hell of a nightmare."

Second alternative: We are living in a the multi-verse where all things are possible and do happen.
